Shadowrun 5th

Has its  :D myyyyy precious. OK... so its only PDF...
Drooling on floor, suffering dumpshock
So far looks awesome.
Stand outs
Character Gen is back to priority system, much easier.
New matrix chapter, first read hurts my head much less than 4th.
Test limits, roll as many dice as you want, but gear and attributtes limit success. Very nice for an augmentation game.
Much discussion in forums that magic is powerfully, as per previous editions. But as per normal everyone forgets NPCs can Counterspell.
Overall it has a theme (Athens???) to it now, everything has a cost. So all augmentation or bonuses have a side effect. They have tried to work this throught the system.

I'm most definitely excited to see it.
Can I get a spell check on that article? I am not sure what Athens has to do with checks and balances. Is it the austerity measures?

Reading, reading... looking at forums... OMG why did onlookers at the forums. Guess what I saw, Rage!!!
What was I expecting...

Its like one of those images, what was I expecting [show picture of hugs], what I saw [chainsaws], what is really happening [show image of a few people posting from their phone while at work - note not actually playing game].

Anyway, game seems to assume that everything is wireless, even your shoes. Its like Ghost in the Shell SOC. So that means you can hack guns to turn them off, or turn off cyberlimbs. Everyone is raging it makes cyber useless, but they are assuming hackers are ultra common, and that defence is difficult (its not). Eg you can get a rating 6 comlink cheap, slave everything to that and you are safe from all but the best hackers. If that fails its a simple action to switch everything to offline mode, you loose a few bonuses but overall can keep on fighting.

I get the feeling this is linked to the main problem I have always had with most peoples views on security in shadowrun. In that corps are willing to throw unlimited resources to defend a basic office. Its just not something you would see... Also, no matter how good your security the weakest link is always the people, either greed or lazyness get in the way. The seven deadly sins are the biggest flaw in any security system.

The point of any RPG is to have fun though, so I suppose it is up to the GM and players to sort these issues out at the start of any game. On that note the GM chapter in the book is excellent, really good advice on setting up campaigns and running them.
