OK, I have been thinking... Always dangerous.

I am loving SR5, but my plan is effectively out the window. Refering to the one month expected release cycle of missions.

As discussed last session I have been looking into running my own campaign entirely, but this is comming up against work and family time commitments. So what I am saying is that its not really working. I am not finding the mental space/time to generate a full campaign.

What is working, we have regular sessions, everyone is turning up and having fun.

So, what I want to do is keep up the momentum.

I am thinking the best solution is to run two games. When a mission is released I run it and a GM adventure around it, spend some time and weave it all together into a fun story. Then run it over 2-3 sessions.

This takes time and a lot of effort to do though. So in between I am looking at running something that is light and easy and can be run at the drop of a hat but is still fun. When I think this Warhammer comes to mind, particularly border princes. I could easily generate a random environment using renegade crowns, then just let the game evolve as we go. A sort of minexraft style sandbox play.  No time commitment from me outside the game, and instant startup time once everyone arrives. This would give me the mental space I need to write out more the more complex shadowrun games so we can enjoy them in thier fullest.

So, thoughts? I am aware not everyone checks the forums, so just writing this down to clear my head.
PS: games on still this Saturday.
PSS: my discussion of future mechwarrior games is still that - future - such a game would still be a year out, maybe longer if we implement the above.

Ultimatly if you dont feel you can bring to the table what Shadowrun needs, then thats not a bad idea.

Some alternative options could be:
1. To pad out Shadowrun with missions from previous seasons (though I'm not sure how much work to get them to fit the current one would be) as we havent played previous seasons anyway.  From what I understand the way missions work is they dont always link up to each other, and generally dont require you to have played previous ones to follow the flow of them.

2. Go ahead with some Warhammer border princes.  My concern is that may end up taking over the shaowrun game given the infrequency of mission publications, and thus Shadowrun ending up the other game or even droped completly (as we seem to be really getting into it).

3. Have a bunch of filler one off RPGs or board gaming to keep the session flow up and happening over the spotty mission release (though this is not mutually exclusive to option 2 either), to give Chimera some laid back chill out play time too.

At the end of the day for me its about getting togeather for a bit of that social outlet and getting some gaming done as well.  So I'll be good with whatever way we decide to go.

We could always punch some Kaiju. :D

I've updated and converted the stuff on PA forums into... well... lets just say I've been playing a lot of XCOM and Xenonauts lately and it has rubbed off. Also, some similarities between them - an international organisation funded mostly by how happy politicians are about its performance. It's perfect. :D

I can run a campaign that's not really cerebral, and requires no more sophisticated thinking than how to spend loot in a dungeon hack. And oh yeah - punch monsters in the face. Light, easy fun.
