OK, saw this one about chaos, that I like very much:

Which led me to this:

Which is a very amusing and interesting rant :)

Interesting reading.
His rant on old school games and the "pathetic asthetic" kinda of lost me as to whether he was ranting for or against it, as far as I could tell overall it was for it though started out seemingly against it.

So true, he goes on to qualify it in other blogs.

The main thing I take from it is a balanced risk vs reward concept is missing from a lot of recent games. Maybe its my own thoughts influencing what I read. But anyway, exhibit A, D&Ds challenge rating system that ensures all fights are balanced.

The balance for me is keeping things fun, but not compensating things too much and leaving some challenge and risk in the game.

Yea I am a big fan especially in tabletop RPGs there are just times you get yourself way in over your head, or places you just cant really expect to adventure untill you are a veteran character.
Thats the side of things I think he was ranting about overall.

His latest blog post talks about 5th ed... but the interesting thing is he gives a link to a free game on DTRPG. Stars without end...  Its just a d20 hybrid science first game, interesting enough, but the really interesting thing is the GM chapter that discusses sandbox okay, worth a read.
