The media in America is dominated by facile, opinionated crap like this, and sadly we seem to be heading that way more each day. I've seen a few of the old-school journalists opine on the matter and I think it's sad they they're a dying breed.
But for me the saddest part about all this is that people get stirred up by the media and companies and organisations live in fear of its gaze. For example (this is a 2nd hand story but from a reliable source, so som details might be a little fuzzy) in Victoria there was a teacher who had what was essentially a cubby house in the classroom made up like a castle with bean bags and such in it, in which students could hang out and read, and if they were losing the plot during class-time they were sent there for 'time out' until they had chilled out a bit and were ready to return to the classroom activities. It was a cosy, relaxing place for the kids to feel comfortable in. The crime of this place? It was made of a huge cardboard box. "So what's the big deal?" you're no doubt asking.
The big deal is that the media (not sure, but I think it was a newspaper) heard and published about a teacher who sends naughty students into a cardboard box for punishment. Now that's sad.
But it gets worse. The gutless, useless, good-for-nothing, %$%@ !$#%ing #$%!#$ school were too gutless to support the teacher and apparently suspended him until the issue was sorted out. It's bad enough that the media trumps up BS stories out of nothing by putting a spin on the story, but it's much worse that the powers that be in the western world are gutless and give power to media BS like that.
One of the comments on on the 2nd video was interesting - something along the lines of the media being a Troll, which is so damned true!
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. My medical bill for blood pressure tablets will be on its way in the mail soon.
